Ok, so we’ve all heard about Coconut Oil and the amazing list of uses for it. You can use it in cooking, baking and for beauty and medicinal purposes. Whether it’s dry skin, lack lustre hair, digestive problems, or athlete’s foot, this smooth, slick, tropical-smelling elixir will help get you and your body back on track to healthy town! The main fat in Coconut Oil is lauric acid, a medium chain fatty acid that positively impacts cholesterol levels. It also contains vitamins E and K, and iron, and has both antimicrobial and antifungal properties.
There are over 101 uses for this little miracle in a jar, I’ve only tried just a few, yet I’m convinced I could find 101 more! I’ve only been using it for the past 4 weeks but, I’m already in love with this product..actually no, it’s more than that, I’m officially an addict! I’m 100% hooked, converted and gone absolute cray cray for this magic little jar of awesomeness.
For under $10 for a 300 gm jar of Melrose Organic Unrefined Coconut Oil I get, an all over body and face moisturiser, face exfoliant, eye makeup remover, body scrub, hair treatment, hair serum, lip balm…..the list goes on…..and I’ve only listed the beauty uses!!
Since discovering this wondrous product, my bathroom cabinet is the emptiest (and neatest) it’s ever looked as I no longer need to stock a cream for each body part! Not to mention, my bank balance is healthier, my skin is the most radiant its looked in a long time, my hair feels softer and looks shinier, and I constantly smell like I’m on holidays in the tropical Bahamas! Win Win!
I’m frustrated that I didn’t find this little gem sooner! The amount of money I could have saved over the years on purchasing my expensive $60+ bottles of facial moisturizers, I could be on vacation in the Bahamas!! But honestly, if you haven’t already tried it yet, what the heck are you waiting for?? I’ve made it easy for you and just listed my top 10 Beauty uses for you to try, and like me, I can guarantee you will be impressed, and you will make the change. See you in the Bahamas people!
My Top Ten Beauty uses for Coconut Oil:
1. Moisturize your skin
Use as an all over face and body moisturiser by applying directly to the skin. Coconut oil has anti ageing properties and is highly moisturising and hydrating. Not only will your skin feel super soft, you will also smell delicious!
2. Buff your skin
Mix oil with equal parts brown sugar or salt and add a drop or two of the essential oil of your choice for a gentle but effective exfoliating scrub in the shower. Helps remove dry skin and leaves skin unbelievably soft.
3. Care for your Cuticles
Treat dry, flaky cuticles by massaging coconut oil into your nails as well moisturising your hands in the process.
4. Shave your Legs
Coconut oil is actually a great way to get a close shave and hydrate your skin in the process. Plus, it’s exceptionally good for people with sensitive skin as it contains no nasty chemicals, just pure, natural ingredients!
5. Treat your tresses to some TLC
Use as a deep conditioning treatment for you tired tresses. This is one of my favourite uses for Coconut oil. I heat up a spoonful in the microwave and apply it to my already shampooed hair. I wrap a hot towel over my head and leave in for 15 minutes, then rinse. Honestly, my hair has never looked better and it hasn’t cost me a fortune in the process to achieve healthier, shinier and more manageable hair.
6. Remove your makeup
Use coconut oil to remove heavy makeup. Just massage some into your skin, leave it on for a few minutes, and wipe off with a warm cloth. This works on even the most stubborn eye makeup. Just apply some coconut oil to a cotton makeup pad and gently wipe off any product. Great for sensitive eyes like mine, as once again it’s all natural, containing no nasty chemicals.
7. Enhance your eyelashes.
Similar to the way it can help strengthen your head of hair, coconut oil can also help strengthen lashes—and that’s especially good news considering it’s all too easy to damage those short hairs. Just apply some oil to a cotton swab and spread it onto your lashes before going to bed.
8. Nourish your lips
Slough off any dry, flaky skin with a DIY coconut oil and brown sugar scrub (mix equal parts sugar and oil and rub over lips and wash off). Then use oil as a lip balm by simply applying a little to your lips for instant hydration. It’ll look a little glossy, so let it sink in for a few minutes if you want a more matte look. Not only will it feel great, but it smells great, and tastes great too!
9. Go for the Glow
Combine coconut oil with baking soda, which is a superstar exfoliant to brighten up lacklustre skin, Just mix a little bit of the two together, gently rub into your skin in circular motions, and then rinse.
10. Whip up an at-home face mask
Mix equal parts Coconut oil and honey and apply to skin for an extremely hydrating, antibacterial face mask. Leave it on for about 15 minutes, and then rinse.
