Here at Bombshell we want you to love the skin you’re in, and that means looking after it! We know that not everyone has time for rigorous, gruelling skincare routines, so we’ve compiled a guide to help you start some good habits! Check out some ideas below, and see which ones work for you!
The best defence is a good offence
Looking after your beautiful face shouldn’t just involve taking off your makeup after a nine hour work day— though this is important too. Just like a plant, your skin needs water. Before it can really shine (figuratively of course) you need to hydrate. Your skin is an organ, just like your brain and your heart— so make sure you look after it! Water will help maintain elasticity, and will help to keep your body feeling awake and refreshed. Drink those eight glasses!
“Exfoliate, cleanse, tone, moisturise!” We all know the mantra. But do we know why we are constantly told to do it? Exfoliating clears the dead skin away, but it also removes the top yucky layers of dirt that build up, and promotes collagen production. Cleansing allows you to scrub and get fresh. Toning helps to minimise the pores. Moisturising gives your skin a boost of, well… Moisture!
Remember to love YOUR skin, not someone else’s
The rule here is simple. Make sure any products you use are right for your skin. Take the time to go into a store and get a consultation. If you don’t need to exfoliate every day, then don’t. Sometimes cleansing is as simple as giving your face a good clean with the hot water in the shower! The steam will open up your pores for you to pat dry. Then you can use a light toner (try Eau Roma Water from Lush Cosmetics) to help your skin stay dewy and fresh. Not everyone needs to moisturise, be careful to get a light cream or gel, and only use it where needed! Feel free to avoid oily zones (ie; forehead, eyes, nose, chin).
I need a dollar, dollar, dollar is what I need
We know skincare can get expensive, so consider some simple alternatives. Try using witch hazel as a toner or even a makeup remover. To exfoliate your lips when they’re dry and chapped, mix some brown sugar with a tiny amount of honey, scrub your lips (gently) with an old toothbrush— this will promote collagen production and make them plump and fresh. Open your pores up and let your skin breath by giving it a steam bath all you need is water, a bowl, and a towel. A little effort goes a long way!
Ladies, we KNOW you love your makeup, because we love it too. While it’s not the best for our skin sometimes, we have to have a plan. Follow the above steps, and let your skin breathe WHENEVER you can. If you don’t have to wear makeup, then don’t. If you do wear it, then please make sure it’s light, and that you don’t have to constantly reapply, as this will only dry out your skin.
Work it out
Yep, this one is just like it sounds. We want you to exercise! Aerobic based exercise (and no, we don’t mean 80’s jazzercise) like running, skipping, anything that gets your heart pumping also gets your blood moving, improves circulation and helps to give you energy. Get up ten minutes earlier, and do some star jumps! Your skin will thank you!
Stress less, sleep more
Stress causes your body to age, so why would your skin be any different? It’s important to make the effort to reduce stress in your life and take time for yourself. Stress can also affect your sleep patterns, and irregular sleep can impact your skin. Your skin needs to rest and relax just as much as your body does!
